I used to hate them because of their bassist. But now I can't deny that their music is pretty infectious although a bit commercial. What gets me is the lyrics of this song. I like how it doesn't kinda make real sense but if you're at that 'right' stage in your life, you'd know what it's about. So are you there yet?
My life's BGM

Mind Trick - Jamie Cullum
I love how the message is concealed in this happy tune, haha. I've heard this song since a long time ago, I even have it on my iPod but today was probably the day when I really listened to it for the first time. Yeah, I tend to skip the happy sounding songs, haha. But I guess I've learned my lesson today, not everything that looks or sounds happy on the outside contain happy stuff.

Brick - Ben Folds Five
I remember hearing this song for the first time when I was about 11. Those were the days when MTV still played proper music. Music in the 90's were the best, in my opinion. So many of my musical influences came from bands and singers in that era. They just had that rich sound and engaging lyrics that make you think, and think, and think. Not necessarily hardcore or heavy but still potent nonetheless. Music instruments were raw, no computer tampering whatsoever. I wish I can relive those days sometimes. This song, I have just found out, is about the singer's personal experience when his girlfriend had to get an abortion. Listen to it and be your own judge as to what he is trying to say. I wouldn't say I agree completely to abortion but I kinda understood how he felt.

Realize - Colbie Caillat
I've just recently discovered this song in an almost ironic way. I love it though, and it probably is a subtler way of expressing my thoughts right now.

If You're Gone - Matchbox 20
I just feel all sorts of feelings contained in this song. Scared, sad, disappointed, hopeless, heartbroken... what else is there?
"I bet you're hard to get over, I bet the room just won't shine"

Goody, Like Two Shoes - Matchbook Romance
I used to listen to this band a lot during my teen years. Yeah, I was once emo too, haha. I know it's so easy to laugh at emo bands, because of their lyrics that are so heartfelt and borderline - wait, not borderline - really depressing. But they describe the nuances of youth well, don't they? Hands up anybody who has been cool, calm and collected all their lives? See, I didn't think anybody was sparred from the emotional ups and downs characteristic of the wonder years. I was in sort of an argument today with somebody I care about, and I just had the urge to listen to Matchbook Romance again. Even though the lyrics don't speak to me as much anymore, partly because I have matured, the feelings and vibes and nuances of their music still appeal to me in that heart-wrenching way I liked, and still like, so much. It's good to know that I can still enjoy their art without it having an adverse effect on me (haha I sound like I'm describing some drug). Cheers to my teen years!
Oh, and to that person, I wonder if I'll ever be able to say sorry, because I do have my pride. But I know I was wrong in that I overreacted. I hope you'll know that I'm sorry, somehow.

"You're cold, but you're beautiful, you're a mess, but I like it that way, I'm a fool, but only a fool knows a miracle."
Hands Down - Dashboard Confessional
'My hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me, so won't you kill me, so I'd die happy, my heart is yours to fill or burst, to break or bury, or wear as jewelry, whichever you prefer'
... need I say more?
